🎬 Netflix’s One Day is a 14 episode series, that is an adaptation of a fictional novel (of the same name) written by David Nicholls. A quick google search showed a movie adaptation, that starred Anne Hathaway, was previously made from it. But that’s not why I’m here.
🍿 Like Netflix puts it: Twenty years. Two people. One Day. Told in the sweetest, yet painfully-slow way, with each episode focusing on the anniversary of when 2 university graduates, Dexter and Emily, had their first encounter, July 15, 1988. And how despite their separate life adventures, they are mostly deliberate on reconnecting July 15th of each year.
▶️|⏯️ I loved watching it because of how well written the screenplay is. You will almost think you’re reading through the pages of the actual novel. The actors also did an amazing job of connecting with their onscreen characters and having me become so invested in how their relationship pans out. Ahmean, I could almost sl*p Dex across the head sometimes. I thought I was in there with them, lol 🫣.
🛑 Now to why I am here… (you should probably stop at this point if you are yet to complete the series)
‼️
I hated how it ended. I hate the reality of it and how it got me into awwnnnnings and cheeky smiles only to rip through my heart afterwards.
I hate it hate hate it. It is not based on a true story so why should it be an unprovoked reminder of how unkind life can be?
Can we also talk about the 15th July of the last episode, when Tilly brought in all those people… to do what please? I was so upset.Like, hello!!!! What’s all this nonsense. He’s grieving here, and maybe with the exception of Dex’s dad, can all of you get out please!
😫 I’m just upset that I had to subject myself through an array of emotions for a story that is fictional.
