I was on my way to watch the final episode of Squid Game: The Challenge on Netflix, when a recently added Nollywood movie caught my attention instead.
đŹBlood Vessel is a Nigerian(Ijaw?) movie that is different in Nollywood terms. And if weâre being honest, a really good story but maybe just wasnât executed smoothly. If you ignore the latter, and are able to watch to the end, youâll see itâs still a good movie despite its shortcomings.
đI started out wondering why there was a disconnect between acting and the actors voices till I checked and saw I was watching English dubbed and not in original audio. Because of the local language and heavy south-south pidgin, thereâs the English and original Ijaw Language to choose from. The moment I switched to Ijaw, that problem vanished.
đżItâs a story about the events that take place on a ship when a group of unlikely locals bond together as stow aways in a desperate attempt to flee their communityâs police/armed men in the aftermath of a protest against oil pollution.
The movie has a heavy sad undertone, which youâll notice with the underscore that adds drama to the scenes. The subtitle even calls it âSad wailing musicâ.
â¶ïž | â© This may become unpopular, but I actually prefer the shockers the movie gave as it came to an end.
Blood Vessel is currently showing on Netflix.
